This exhibition features twenty artist designed chairs inspired by the life and legacy of Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm and her famous quote, “If they don’t give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair.” Following a national call for proposals, the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the U.S. Senate commissioned select artists to create works celebrating historical and contemporary change agents including gun control activist and March for Our Lives organizer Emma Gonzalez, Special Olympics founder Eunice Kennedy Shriver, Congresswoman Deb Haaland, farm worker rights leader Cesar Chavez, Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. and Senator Daniel Inouye.
